Games Like Viewtiful Joe (2003)

Viewtiful Joe is a wild ride that feels like watching a live-action superhero movie made by someone who grew up obsessed with 80s anime and old-school platformers. You play as Joe, a regular guy who suddenly gains the power to slow down time, zoom through the air, and turn his punches into cinematic special effects. The game is packed with style from start to finish. Every fight is a choreographed sequence where you dodge, time your attacks, and use your camera powers to create dramatic slow-mo moments. The world is a mix of real city life and over-the-top movie set pieces, and it all comes together with a soundtrack that matches every action beat. You’re not just jumping and punching you’re performing stunts that feel like they belong in a B-movie. The story is silly and fun with a hero who’s confident but not arrogant and a villain who’s both ridiculous and oddly compelling. It’s a game that makes you smile while you’re trying to perfect that perfect cinematic dodge.
