Games Like Powermonger (1990)

Powermonger from 1990 is a deep and satisfying strategy game that puts you in charge of building and commanding an army in a brutal fantasy world where every decision matters. You start with a small band of fighters and must expand your territory by conquering villages, building settlements, training troops, and outmaneuvering rival warlords. The real thrill comes from the way your choices ripple through the world—whether you focus on spreading your influence through stealth, overwhelming force, or clever diplomacy. The game rewards patience and planning more than frantic action, and the turn-based structure gives you time to think through your next move. It's not flashy by modern standards but has a raw, gritty charm that feels like a forgotten classic. You can play it solo or battle a friend over a null modem or modem link for that old-school multiplayer feel. It’s a game about power, survival, and the messy cost of ambition.
