Asteroids is a classic arcade shooter that's incredibly simple to pick up but surprisingly difficult to master. You control a spaceship navigating a field of asteroids while dodging enemy fire. The core gameplay loop involves shooting asteroids to break them into smaller pieces and collecting the resulting metal. You can also destroy enemy ships that are trying to take you down. The game has a fantastic sense of momentum and the constant threat of being overwhelmed creates a really engaging experience. It's pure arcade fun focused on reflexes and spatial awareness. The minimalist graphics and pulsing soundtrack contribute to a timeless atmosphere that still holds up today. It's the kind of game you can easily lose yourself in for a few minutes or a longer session trying to beat your high score.
