Games Like Arete (itch)

Arete is a really interesting RPG that throws you into ancient Greece with a twist. Instead of a grand heroic quest, it focuses on the everyday life of a citizen navigating a world steeped in mythology. You don't control a legendary hero but rather someone trying to make their mark through skill and cunning. The game uses an OSR system which means it emphasizes player agency and a flexible approach to rules. Expect to explore the city, interact with various characters, and engage in challenges that feel grounded despite the fantastical setting. It’s a game about making choices and seeing how they ripple through your character’s life, focusing on personal growth and the consequences of your actions. If you enjoy games that prioritize narrative and player freedom over constant action, Arete offers a unique and thoughtful experience.
